Healthcheck on Information Security Legislative Compliance
Presentation Abstract:
Brief
Overview: This
presentation will provide a brief outline of the legislation pertinent
to information security as well the primary information processes to be
reviewed when assessing organisational compliance. Sub-topics include:
data privacy; electronic records management; access to information;
intellectual property and electronic evidence. Case studies, news
headlines and current articles will be used to illustrate the relevant
compliance concerns. Further to the above, forecasts of pertinent
imminent legislation and legislative changes will be provided
About
Pria Chetty:
Pria
completed her law degree in 2000 and went on to specialise in
Electronic Law and Intellectual Property Law. An active commentator on
the ICT industry, Pria has been approached for numerous speaking
engagements at international and local Technology and Innovation events
and written articles that have appeared in amongst other publications:
Leadership, Computing SA, I-Week, Tectonic, Music Industry Online and
Engineering News. She has also been interviewed by SABC TV and radio
channels regarding legal developments in the ICT industry. Pria more
recently co-authored “Protecting Business Ideas”.
She was identified
as one of the Brightest Young Minds in South Africa and later, in 2006,
featured in Maverick magazine as one of five young attorneys making
their mark in legal practice in South Africa. In 2007, she was invited
to join Cambridge Alumnae in scenario planning for sustainable futures
for South Africa. She was also invited by the Department of Public
Administration to deliver a key note address on E-law and comment on
the impact of software patents in South Africa’s service delivery
review. Pria was also invited to be a senior researcher on the Open
Review of the Copyright Act project which will culminate in
parliamentary submissions on copyright law in SA.
In 2008, Pria
joins an international research team exploring the impact of copyright
law on access to knowledge. She will also represent South Africa at the
regional FLOSS WORLD conference where she has been invited to speak.
She
is the founder of Technology and Innovation Law Firm, Chetty Law which
comprises a multi-disciplinary, consultative approach to solving
technology and innovation legal questions. Chetty Law has provided
technology law services and strategic advisory services to a wide range
of clients including public sector agencies, SA’s largest
corporates and most innovative entrepreneurs.
